Circuit Breaker Replacement in California
A circuit breaker is a mechanical safety device, and like any mechanical part it wears out. If a breaker in your California home feels hot, will not stay reset, or trips with almost nothing on the circuit, it may need replacing. We test first, because a breaker that trips is often doing exactly what it should, and the real problem is on the circuit it protects.

Circuit breaker replacement in California sounds simple, and when the diagnosis is right it is. The skill is in confirming the breaker is the failed part, matching the replacement to the panel's listing, and checking the bus bar behind it for heat damage. MC Carley Electric does all three on every breaker call.

Circuit breaker replacement questions
Can I just install a bigger breaker so it stops tripping?
No. The breaker is sized to protect the wire. A larger breaker on the same wire lets the wire overheat before the breaker reacts, which is a fire risk. The fix is a new circuit or moving loads.
How much does it cost to replace a circuit breaker in California?
A standard single-pole breaker is an inexpensive repair. AFCI, GFCI and main breakers cost more for the part. We quote the exact price once we have identified the panel and the breaker.
Are replacement breakers available for older panels?
For many older panels, yes. For a few obsolete brands, listed replacements are scarce or the panel design itself is the hazard, and we will recommend replacing the panel instead.
